The first show that got me hooked onto television was How I Met Your Mother almost 6 years ago and it is safe to say I jumped onto that bandwagon and have been holding on for dear life ever since. I am definitely more of a tv than a movie person and have seen enough shows - and Lord knows I still do - to be qualified to tell you what precisely are the signs of a television addict.
1) Binge watching an entire season.
Say a friend introduces you to a new show which is supposedly epic. You have
reluctantly accepted to just give it a test run and watch the first episode, because
you inherently feel that you can’t possibly catch up with so many seasons that
have released thus far.
After accepting that prior to you discovering this show, your
life felt like it was on the Maturity stage of the Product Life Cycle (Did I
really just give in a Business Studies reference), you have this incessant need
to watch all the episodes in 24 hours.
It feels so good to not wait in suspense
but just so bad that I cant possibly watch everything in one day, but hey, who
says I won’t try?
2) Your life is over after the show ends.
You watched an entire season.
& The one after that.
&
After that. (x5)
& Now.. It’s over.
The show is over. I don’t think I can wrap
my head around that fact. What else do I have in my life to look forward to?
Who can fill this void within me? I REFUSE to let go of this show.
Basically
this is a very dramatic and emotional stage in a television junkie’s life.
Do you know what is worse though? THE ONES
THAT GO ON BREAK FOR 6+ MONTHS. (Teen Wolf)
& Then you have the VIP’s like
Sherlock that make you wait an entirety of two years for three more episodes of a damn season. (!!!)
In my humble opinion, this is no less than torture and a punishable offence.
(I kid you not, I was abusing the Caps Lock button in this paragraph but decided not to scar you'll further)
Which brings me to 3) You have QUITE a lot of tv shows lined up for different times during the year when shows tend to go on break. We need to fill this abyss of withdrawal somehow, you guys.
4) You can relate more to fictional characters and situations.
You understand Caroline's perfectionism and control
freakery because you suddenly realise you see yourself in her. You realise the catastrophe that can occur from another timeline created because a silly boy decided to go back in time and save his girlfriend that he has been with for approximately three episodes. Also, you feel like you could be bffs with Donna. (Sarah Rafferty is
everyone’s girl crush)
5) You would rather watch the latest episode of The Originals than have human interaction.
Unless we’re discussing the ridiculous cliff hanger of an
episode that came out today.
6) If you're anything like me, it's impossible to remember which shows release on which day of the week due to the bulk of tv plots we insist on watching. Hence, I actually have a list with the days and the corresponding shows. (I take my tv seriously, you'll. Order and discipline are a must.)
7) You probably
caught the Serious Stalking Syndrome.
You become shamelessly absorbed into
the actor’s personal life, such that apart from knowing their career + life
history till date, you now know where the actress purchased her dress from even
though she didn’t tag the shops name on Instagram, but because you know where
she frequently shops from, your guess is probably on point.
It is safe to say I have found my peace, comfort and undying love
with the television.
Hope you'll recognised yourselves there too! Teehee.
